Dripping meat could cause cross-contamination, so it needs to be cleaned up as quickly as possible. You also have to make sure you know how to stock a refrigerator properly so cross-contamination doesn’t happen, such as raw meats on one shelf, cooked meats directly above them, and fruits and vegetables on top.

You will use many general cooking tools as a short order cook. You will use a commercial range, grill, and fryer to cook foods. You also need to be able to use fruit zesters, graters, paring knives, meat slicers, steamers, and other commercial appliances and tools. As a short order cook, you will need to be able to judge the quality of your food and the happiness of your customers. You need to be able to handle complaints and conflicts that may arise.
