I write this VA appeal letter in response to the VA’s decision regarding my disability request. I did two tours in Afghanistan and was wounded in May 2012. But it was during an ambush later that year that sent me home. I was the sole survivor of an insurgent attack. I watched three of my friends die. I should have died but a gun jammed and exploded in my attacker’s hand burning a portion of my face. I escaped and spent two days in the desert before I was found.
Since coming home I have struggled far more than I care to admit. I have lost three jobs. I cannot close my eyes without having nightmares. If my neighbors’ television is too loud I keep looking over my shoulder. I expect time to heal me but for now I suffer from extreme PTSD and cannot function normally.
While my long term intent is to return to the workforce right now I need help maintaining my rent and bills. I ask that the VA review the attached medical records and reconsider its decision. Thank you.
