More about photography jobs

Technical know-how combined with imagination and composition is what photographers employ to create a story or capture a moment in time. There are various photography jobs available in almost every industry. According to an estimate, the photography jobs will grow by 17%, or about 12700 new jobs from 2020 to 2030.

Career Opportunities in Photography

Those with creativity and technical knowledge of handling a camera can pursue several photography jobs. On a broad scale, there are four main types of photography jobs: advertising, fashion, documentary, and fine art.

  • Commercial Photographers: Commercial Photographers create commercial and industrial photography for advertisements, promotional material, and other business purposes. Those employed in the industrial sector usually have commercial/industrial photography experience and knowledge of photo-editing software like Photoshop or similar tools.
  • Fashion Photographers: The Fashion Photographer is in charge of capturing the essence of a fashion collection with a camera lens. This entails shooting on location and in the studio and utilizing a range of lighting techniques to create an iconic image for each season.
  • Fine Art Photographers: Fine Art Photographers take artistic photographs for galleries, museums, and other public or private entities. They must be creative and artistic and be knowledgeable about techniques such as lighting and lens use.
  • Photojournalists: The photojournalist is in charge of taking and editing photographs for publication. Working together with the writer and other members of the editing team to create captivating images that accurately portray the written material is required. To be successful as a photojournalist, one must be able to operate efficiently under pressure.
  • Drone Photographers: With the increase in demand for 360-degree and aerial imagery, drone photography is becoming a mainstream career option for photographers. Drone Photographers are tasked with the responsibility of collecting aerial images and movies of landscapes and events.

In addition, there are several other opportunities, such as scientific photographer, wildlife photographer, and others.
