may want to head to Seattle after a new report found the city is the top place in the nation when it comes to job growth in the technology sector.According to the Forbes/Praxi Strategy Group study that looked at employment in high-tech sectors including data processing, software engineering and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), the Seattle area has experienced a 43% increase in high-tech jobs and 18% percent growth in STEM-related positions over the past 10 years. In the past 2 years alone, the region has seen a 12% jump in the overall creation of jobs for people looking for careers in computingThe report noted that companies such as Amazon, Microsoft and Boeing are all helping to drive job growth in the area. Amazon recently announced it was hiring 1,000 new technology workers in Seattle, while Facebook and Google are both expanding offices in the city. Other hot spots for high-tech job growth include the Washington D.C. area, San Diego, Salt Lake City and Baltimore.The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that employment opportunities for computer software developers are expected to increase by 30% through 2020.
