Software Developer, Database Administrator Named Best Tech Jobs of 2012


Technology professionals know how important it is to keep up with advances in the industry in order to remain successful into today's competitive market. Now, U.S. News and World Report has come out with its list of some of the most valuable degrees to add to a resume in the technology field.

According to the Best Technology Jobs list, software developers will be among some of the most sought after in the profession. Software developers write code and design or customize computer applications, a growing sector in the industry.

Database Administrators (DBAs), those who create security measures that help a company protect and run its systems efficiently, was number 2 on the list. Job growth is expected to surge more than 30% through the decade.

Other positions that made the list include web developer, computer systems analysts, programmers and civil engineers.

The demand for qualified technology workers is also spiking enrollment in the computer sciences at college campuses across the U.S. A recent survey by the  Computer Research Association (CRA) found that enrollment in computer-based programs increased nearly 10% this year.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that employment for computer and information research scientists are expected to increase by 19% through 2020.
