According to figures from New York’s Genesee Community College, over 100 million people were estimated to be working in the worldwide hospitality industry – and with over 62,000 establishments in the United States that offer overnight accommodation, there are plenty of opportunities at home and abroad.Working in hospitality can cover a wide range of jobs and duties. A hospitality management student can expect to study everything from hotel operations to food and beverage management to meeting and convention planning. In addition, they may be required to take courses in accounting, professional sales, marketing, human relations and public speaking. According to projection from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, hospitality graduates should experience “excellent” job opportunities in the coming years as the hotel sector is expected to continue its recent expansion. Between 2006 and 2016, the industry is expected to create many new jobs, mainly thanks to the development of new hotels and the steady growth of business and international travel. In 2006, the hotel and accommodation sector accounted for around 1.8 million jobs in the US.
