New Graduates Need to Create Online Personal Brand for Job Search

Personal Brand Image

In today’s competitive market, it’s important that new graduates heading out into the workforce ramp up their job search in order to find work in their field.

Personal branding expert Nancy A Shenker, a former marketing director for Citibank, wrote in the Times and Democrat that new job seekers should think of their own personal brand as a way to “position” themselves in a way that they stand out in a crowded field of qualified candidates.

Shenker said that candidates need to use social media sites to the best of their advantage, which includes linking their resume and updating their profiles to make sure they reflect a well polished, professional image.

In addition, Shenker also recommended that job seekers consider becoming “patchwork professional” by working a couple of temporary jobs at the same time in order to gain valuable work experience.

Candidates may also want to use a free resume builder to make sure their resume highlights their relevant skills and education.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were approximately 3.7 million job openings in the U.S. as of April 2012.
