A big interview can be both exciting yet stressful, and it can be even more stressful if something comes up that prevents you from reaching the office. Going into a great deal of detail could make it seem like you are attempting to overcompensate.
Your letter should end with you asking if you can reschedule your interview. It is possible that a rescheduling is impossible, but sending the letter is still worth it.
