Writing a Second Interview Letter

The second interview letter is one of the final letters you will send before the official job offer. This letter should indicate that the applicant is one of the best candidates for the job. It is important to create a letter that is encouraging, friendly, and inviting. A good letter will help the applicant to feel excited about this next step in the interview process. Also, when the second interview letter is written correctly, there is a strong chance that the applicant will accept the opportunity.

Attributes of a Good Second Interview Letter

In order to write the best letter, you can use the following steps as a guide:

  • Include your name, position, company, and address on the top of the letter.

    • Write the date the letter was written.
  • List the applicant’s name and address at the top of the resume.

  • Begin the letter with an overview of the first interview. Make sure to highlight specific reasons the candidate has been selected for a second interview.

  • Identify the date, time, and location of the second interview.

  • Write the names of the people who will be performing the interview.

  • Explain the purpose of the second interview and what the candidate should expect.

    The best letters motivate the applicant about the job possibility. They also encourage the candidate to prepare properly for a good performance. Remember, the more information you can provide, the better the interview will be for both parties. The details of the letter can alleviate some of the anxiety about the interview. It can also ensure that you receive the information you are seeking during the interview.

    Sample Second Interview Letter

    In the example letter below, the interviewer is communicating with the job applicant. He does a great job at helping the candidate understand that the company was impressed and would like to spend more time to determine if it is a match. The letter even identifies what the applicant should expect the second interview to cover.

The managers in our department will interview you, and we hope that it will help us learn more about your capabilities and allow us to determine if you are the right fit for our current team.

    Your second interview is scheduled on September 1, 2015 at 2:00pm. Please arrive at our office, 25 Washington Ave, Davenport, Iowa 32323. During this interview, you will meet with Shauna Ellis, Cathy Dupal, Julie Crane, and John Kavenaugh. Please allow for 1 ½ to 2 hours for the interview.

    Although the first interview focuses on your proven abilities and skills, the second interview covers your soft skills. We are interested in learning more about your ability to work with others, your problem solving skills, and your communication abilities. Please prepare to discuss these areas in detail and have examples for each category.
