How to Write a Technical Project Manager Resume Summary Statement
Instead of writing a resume objective, most employers prefer you write a summary statement that runs from about four to six lines of text. The summary statement offers more insight into your work experience, knowledge and character. Create an easily-scannable overview of your experience with specific achievements and qualifications, such as your ability to oversee new software installations. If you managed a company that used several different operating systems and used hybrid cloud computing platform, you can allude to that as an example of your work experience.
When you write your summary statement, you can use fragments and write in the first person without using pronouns. For example, rewrite the sentence, “I am an accomplished technical project manager” as “Accomplished technical project manager.” Include your years of experience if you have significant work experience. Include keywords like “design-oriented” or “team-oriented” to provide some insight into your character. When possible, use keywords that match the workplace culture of the company you want to work for. If you apply to a company that places a high value on technical analysis, use keywords such as “analytical” or “tech-savvy.”
Include any information about awards and accomplishments and two to three valuable skills sets. For a technical project manager, this could include accomplishments in the project development, software creation and task designation arenas. Many technical project managers know how to direct large scale projects, improve systems and increase production. Provide a specific example of when you demonstrated those skills. For example, you might state that you, “Consistently increased production while reducing team member workload by accurately gauging project needs.” This tells the company that you not only have superior task management skills but that you strive for efficiency in the workplace and are responsive to the big picture.
