What’s in an education section? When you’re writing a resume education section for a server job, you’re probably eager to get into your actual work experience instead of your education. However, including relevant education can help potential employers get a sense of your areas of knowledge, personality and skills. How much information you include when writing a resume education section will depend on the level of education you have attained. If you did not attend college at all, include your high school information to indicate that you at least have a high school diploma, as not every job candidate can claim this. If you are still in college or have recently graduated, be sure to include your college information, such as the name of the institution, its location, the degree (along with specialization, emphasis, etc.) and the dates attended. To sell yourself even further, follow up that info with other items such as key educational experiences, leadership roles, and relevant coursework.
Only include your dates of attendance if you are about to graduate or have very recently graduated. If you graduated more than a couple years ago, you do not have to indicate so. Also, only include your GPA if you recently graduated and it is at least a 3.0. If you transferred credit from a smaller college to a university, mention only the larger university.

You have some choices with formatting when writing a resume education section; however, the best resumes all provide needed information clearly and in a way that is aesthetically pleasing. Use a header that says “Education.” It should be in bold, use all caps, be in a larger font or have some other special formatting that makes it stand out from the body text. Put the most recent school first. Include the word “current” or “in progress” by a school you are still attending. Consider using bullets to elaborate on your primary educational experiences or accomplishments.

Some people prefer to add some space in between each school. This is up to you, depending on how much you need to fit on your resume page.
