Jobs in the pharmaceutical field are very competitive, but having a unique yet professional resume can put you at the top of the list. To get started, you will need to know how to format a resume or update an existing one. Learning how to format a resume involves letting potential employers know about your best qualities as a pharmacy technician.
1. Decide on a resume format to show your experience as a pharmacy technician. The most common is the chronological format; the combined format is generally used if you have held only one job your entire career or if you are a recently graduated student with no substantial work history.
2. List contact information at the top. Include your name, email, phone number and address. Proofread your contact information for accuracy to ensure that interviewers can contact you. Include a professional email, but do not use an email address set up by your current or past employer.
3. Write your professional summary directly below the contact information. How to format a resume has changed in the past few years; objective statements are no longer needed because the objective is already stated in the job description. In this paragraph, you want to sell yourself as a great asset to the pharmacy or related company. 5. Use the next section to highlight your education. Again, start with the most recent and then go backwards. If you are in progress with a degree, note your anticipated graduation date beside the degree. GPA is not needed unless you are a recent graduate. This is a great place to note any activities, volunteer work, organizations, clubs or internships you were a part of that are relevant to pharmacy technician job. Examples include a job shadowing a pharmacist and a retail pharmacy internship. Do not include high school information unless that is your only education.
6. Note all important certifications and licenses. How to format a resume in this section can vary depending on the individual. This section can be included with education if you only have one or two certifications or licenses. However, creating a separate category is recommended because most states require state pharmacy technician licenses. Be sure to research your state qualifications. Obtain and list all licenses required by your state. Write the complete name of your credentials followed by an acronym. A good example is “Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).”
