Rend Lake College (RLC) in Ina, Illinois, has announced it will launch a new bachelor’s degree program this fall for students interested in pursuing a career in criminal justice.

The Southern Illinoisan reports that the new criminal justice degree will be offered through a new partnership with Missouri Baptist University that will allow all RLC credits to be transferred toward the program.

RLC said the expansion of the criminal justice program was in direct response to the large number of people in the area looking to add the speciality degree to their resumes.

The partnership between Missouri Baptist University and Rend Lake College makes perfect sense, RLC President Terry Wilkerson told the news agency. “Bringing this bachelor’s degree program within easy reach of our residents adds to the access they have to advanced degrees. We are happy to work with Missouri Baptist to increase the opportunities for affordable higher education in our district.”

Missouri Baptist University already runs similar partnerships with Logan College and Lewis & Clark Community College in the Metro East region.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment opportunities for police and detectives are expected to increase by 7% through the end of the decade.
