Michigan’s Oakland University Launches 2 New Criminal Justice Degree Programs

Looking to add more options for students wanting to add an advanced degree in law enforcement on their resumes

, Oakland University’s Mount Clemens location has announced it will begin offering 2 new degree programs in the fall.

The school said it will offer 2 types of master degrees in public administration – one that will focus on court administration, the other on criminal justice. Officials said the program was designed with the help of local court officials, and is the first-of-its-kind to be offered by a college in Michigan.

We’re ecstatic that Oakland University has decided to offer this program in Macomb County, and more particularly in downtown Mount Clemens, Macomb Chief Circuit Judge Mark Switalski told the Daily Tribune. “The location in Mount Clemens, right near the courthouse, we think, is perfect for this program.”

The university said the court administration will appeal to students seeking work at various judicial agencies, while the criminal justice degree will focus on law enforcement, probation and corrections.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment opportunities for police and detectives are expect to be favorable, increasing by 10 percent, through the end of the decade.
