Board of Trustees
Ely School of Business
City, State, Zip Code
Dear Mike,
As of the date of this letter, I am resigning as a Trustee with the Ely School of Business. While I have enjoyed my time and was looking forward to another term, recent events have made remaining a hard choice. As an alumnus of Ely, I joined the Board with what I thought was a clear understanding of the school’s direction and mission statement. I believe the Board has lost its focus over the last few years.
As everyone knows, I was disconcerted by the Board’s methods in selecting the new president. It felt to me like a buddy system was in place and a choice had been made before a single applicant had been reviewed. I felt our responsibility to lead the selection process as opposed to circumventing it only hurts the Board’s authority and credibility.
Unfortunately, my dissatisfaction with not just the selection Ð whom I feel has neither the experience nor educational background to sufficiently manage Ely Ð but with the process has left me in an awkward position with the Board, as well as at odds with the new president.
To my mind, I cannot effectively operate as a Trustee and see this resignation as my only option.
Best regards,
Nolan Santana
