A recommendation letter, also called a reference, is a statement from a third party used to highlight the qualities, characteristics and strengths of a candidate applying for employment. (It is also used for opportunities like getting into school.) They can be addressed to a specific person and organization or generalized with a To Whom It May Concern salutation. It should be written carefully, like this Journeymen Plumbers Recommendation Letter, and help make the idea of finding employment less stressful.

To Whom It May Concern:
It recently came to my attention that my old friend and former colleague, Bruce Grayson, needed a recommendation. Considering what I think of him, being asked is a privilege. I have no issue singing his praises.
I am thrilled to hear Bruce is looking for Journeymen Plumber positions. It means he is accomplishing his goals. When he first started working four years ago at my plumbing supply store, he had recently completed his apprenticeship. He already had enough knowledge to tackle the most complex plumbing assignment, culled from years of watching a relative construct, install and maintain plumbing systems. Still, Bruce was excited about learning at the hands of more experienced plumbers. He was pretty much the right hand man on every assignment one of our people took, approaching every one with enthusiasm.
Whether it is fatherhood or installing a water tank, Bruce Grayson always delivers. I could not recommend him more for any position in the field.
