As the economic crisis continues to fade, more consumers are looking to open their wallets a little more for the sake of doing something fun and exciting. Areas that rely heavily on hospitality and tourism are beginning to see an increase in spending from patrons, a sign that could ultimately create more careers in the traveling industry. Workers in Vermilion County, Illinois, have noticed a recent boost in their economy thanks in part to visitors who are spending money in the area, according to the Commercial-News. Local tourism is playing a large part in the county's economy, bolstering their employment and revenue. "We're a self-sustaining industry, so local residents don't have to spend tax dollars to support it," Danville Area Convention and Visitors' Bureau Executive Director Jeanie Cooke told the news provider. "There's quite a bit of property tax that comes in just with the hotels." Cooke went on to add that one in every 10 jobs in the state of Illinois are careers in the tourism industry. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, careers in the hospitality industry are expected to increase by 5% by 2018. |
