The hospitality industry is a constantly changing sector that offers something for everyone - comprising of everything from the managerial level to cooking and serving. While the industry may have taken a hit during the slow economic recovery, it is quickly regaining its momentum. According to the Bennington Banner, a new culinary arts and hospitality program will be offered at the Southwest Vermont Career Development Center (CDC) the upcoming school year. The announcement came earlier this month, after the state awarded the CDC a $48,000 grant to get the program started. The total cost of the new program is expected to be between $85,000 and $100,000, according to the news source. The culinary arts and hospitality program will be a two year program. The first year will focus on the science of food, sanitation, nutrition and restaurant management, while the second year will focus more on presenting and properly preparing the food. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the hospitality industry employed more than 11,182,000 people in July, 2010. |
