For those thinking about pursuing a career in the culinary arts, a new expanded apprenticeship program at the Chez Boucher Culinary Arts Training Center could help add the hands-on experience needed to land a job in the hospitality field. The new apprenticeship program at the Hampton, New Hampshire, school is being offered through the American Culinary Federation and includes 1,000 hours of training in a professional culinary setting, which students can do at the at the institute's dining room and new lounge, Savory Square Bistro. Ron Boucher, owner of the training center, told SeaCoastOnline.com that it thinks the new program could serve as a blueprint for other culinary institutes. "I just want to see this develop, to really prosper," Boucher told the news agency. "With combining the professional training program with the apprenticeship, I think it could become a good model for other schools going forward." The next program gets underway in January and will include hot and cold prep and line cooking. All students who complete the course will become certified through the ACF. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job opportunities for food preparation and serving workers are expected to grow by 6% through the end of the decade. |
