Before, musicians sent out demo tapes to major music labels with the hope of landing a recording contract. Now, those days are gone and more up-and-coming singers and musicians are finding ways of kick starting their own career online. However, Annabel Linquist didn't initially set out to do that. The prolific musician, on a whim, decided to post a song on her friend's Facebook wall using the social network's iLike program, the Los Angeles Times reports. Others grabbed onto the idea and eventually commissioned Linguist to write a quick song about someone they like. One of the songs, titled I Heart Elisabet Davidsdottir, was reportedly made to ask the song's subject on a date. "Even with a black eye/ You're the hottest model like ever/ Would you consider getting together/ Cause the other thing he's good at is pleasure," sings Linquist. Today, she commands $130 for a custom song, according to the article. Many musicians and bands have taken to social media sites to either release or sell their music. Both Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails have done so with reported success. |
