As the market starts to rebound from the economic downturn, many people may find more jobs starting to open up in the restaurant and hospitality industry. For those who have dreamed of becoming a top chef, a postsecondary education on a resume can provide a strong background to land a higher paying job in the services industry.

McHenry College (MCC) in Crystal Lake, Illinois says that it will pump millions of dollars to upgrade its culinary arts program in order to keep up with increasing enrollment.

The school has announced a $3.5 million capital improvements package that will include a three-phase overhaul of its kitchen and cafeteria facilities. In addition, the college will be adding a culinary lab to the campus since students have had to travel to the nearby Woodstock North High School for lab courses.

The newly-expanded kitchen will be used for both food service in the cafeteria and courses in restaurant management.

The culinary arts program at MCC has grown rapidly in the past few years. The school said that the renovations will also allow them to offer a degree in culinary management this Fall.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that job opportunities in the food services industry are expected to be good through 2018.
