For the first time in Atlantic City's gaming industry, all of the casinos in the area gathered recently with a purpose to hire local residents and help bring down the city's unemployment rate. Residents flocked to a job fair, where hundreds of casino jobs were offered, including culinary, food and beverage operations, hotel operations, marketing operations, security and a limited number of dealer openings, the Press of Atlantic City has reported. "This is a validation that there is a tremendous desire for gainful employment by Atlantic City residents," the city mayor, Lorenzo Langford, told the news provider. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported in its 2010-2011 outlook that employment in gaming services occupations will grow by 14 percent through 2018. The largest number of gaming services workers are employed in casinos in Nevada, it added. The bureau also reported that new job openings in the casino industry are being triggered by the increasing popularity and prevalence of Indian casinos and pari-mutuel racetracks with casinos, popularly known "racinos," which are legal in 20 states. |
