Last month, the government suggested that the economy was on the upswing in terms of employment opportunities, thanks to big gains in temp jobs and health care. While these professions grew exceptionally at a national level, the state of Missouri is noticing a particular increase in employment opportunities in the entertainment industry. More than 7,200 jobs were added during March in Missouri, where almost half of the gains came from the state's bustling entertainment industry, including the newly opened River City Casino in St. Louis, according to the Missouri Department of Economic Development. About 3,000 new jobs were contributed by the casino gaming businesses. The River City Casino recently opened in St. Louis, and currently employs more than 1,200 people. The casino's website has several creative job postings looking for "free spirits," "fun ambassadors" and "joy makers." The Springfield Business Journal reported that March employment figures were the strongest since 2007, when the state started to feel the pinch of a downturn that ultimately led to thousands of losses across industries in the past two years. |
