With an increasingly competitive job market and a slowly recovering economy, making a resume stand out is becoming an art form. However, the internet and social networking sites is one way to promote your resume and market yourself. According to ABC's Good Morning America, maximizing the benefits of social networking is one of the top ten job hunting skills for those looking to enter the workforce. Social networking sites like LinkedIn allow job seekers to post their resume's and expand their "network" to include old classmates, co-workers, and friends. Maximizing sites like LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook will allow job seekers to present themselves to a larger audience than before. The news source also encourages job seekers to keep track of where they have sent their resume, who has responded and who has not. By keeping track, job seekers can confidently keep track of how long it has been since a resume has been submitted and ask for a follow up. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as of April 2010 the unemployment rate is 9.9%. However, the BLS also reports that in April 2010, comma 290,000 new jobs were added to the economy.  |
