A leading author on resume writing is advising job hunters on the importance of "recession-proofing" their own resumes. In a recent statement, Wendy Enelow outlined five tips for job hunters trying to navigate through the current recession. Among her tips are to sell your success, since "resume writing is all about sales, marketing and merchandising," with the job hunter as the actual product. Enelow also advises job hunters to be specialists instead of generalists because companies tend to want workers with more relevant experience. Other tips include using the right keywords and phrases on your resume, especially since many of today's resumes are scanned electronically before anybody actually reads them. A "branding statement" is also advised at the top of your resume to help set yourself apart from the competition. Separately, a recent New York Daily News article offered a list of the top ten resume criteria sought out by recruiters. Among these are a strong area of expertise with solid, relevant industry experience, leadership experience, a summary paragraph of one's professional experience, information on relevant technical skills, and evidence of having spent a significant amount of time at a company as opposed to job-hopping. |
