With the job market slowly picking up, the competition is gearing up and getting your resume noticed is getting harder and harder as more qualified people are applying for various jobs. However, a solid resume will not only make a great first impression, but it can often be the difference between landing an interview and not. According to the Shreveport Times, a resume workshop will be held at the Bossier Central Library on July 29 and August 5. Meredith McLellan, from the University of Phoenix, will be hosting the free workshop on resume writing and interview preparation, so that attendees will know exactly what is expected of their resume today. Since hiring managers are often swamped with resumes, McLellan will teach attendees tricks on how to make their resume stand out and reiterate the importance of using spell check before sending the final copy in. The library also is recommending a book to supplement the workshop, called Resume Writing Made Easy: A Practical Guide to Resume Preparation and Job Search, by Lola Brown. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate in June dropped from 9.7% to 9.5%. |
