As many companies get ready to add to their payrolls for the new year, job seekers must make sure that their resumes are flawless in order to stand out in a crowded field of candidates. Eli Amdur, senior coach and adviser for the Amdur Coaching and Advisory Group, told Business Insider that job seekers need to make sure that their resumes are only one page and highlight their most relevant skills. "Somewhere between 95 to 99% of resumes have stuff that shouldn't be on there," Amdur told the news source. "The general rule is if you put anything on there that distracts the reader from your real accomplishments, then don't do it. Resumes need to be concise and clear." A resume should always be written in the first person and include bullet points to list professional achievements. Amdur also said a resume should not include any personal data such as marital status, religious preferences, hobbies or any current business contact information. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were approximately 3.3 million job openings in the U.S. as of November 2011. |
