Paying close attention to every detail on your resume is more important than ever at a time when over four million jobs have been lost in recent months. A recent report on Sacramento's News10.net advises job seekers that they even need up to six different versions of their resume, depending on the various types of positions and specialties that are seeking to work in. The report advises that some people may need to even simplify their resume to avoid appearing over-qualified for a certain job. Job coach Synthia Smith told the TV station that people need to emphasize their skills as they apply to a particular job - for example, a former company president emphasizing marketing skills while going for a sales job. Separately, a job-hunting blog on the Boston Globe website offers some additional tips on how to get calls back once you've actually applied for a job. Some of the tips include being sure you are "reasonably qualified" for the job and correctly follow any instructions that come up in the application process. The column also advises people to pursue networking opportunities within the company they hope to work for, and to be sure their resume has sufficient keywords to survive being electronically scanned. |
