In today's job market, candidates can update their resume using visual aids and color to help them stand out in a crowded field of qualified job seekers.

According to career strategy expert Laura M. Labovich, job seekers should include tasteful and professional visual accessories on their resumes that can add value, charm and a little "zing."

"Visuals aids on resumes are no longer taboo. In many cases, visual elements are intriguing and can increase the chances that a resume will be read," Labovich stressed. "When done tastefully, graphics, charts, color, and pizazz in the form of quotes or testimonials, can be the 'wow' factors that will catapult that resume to the top of the hiring manager's pile."

Labovich said job seekers should incorporate charts or graphs that can provide clear proof of accomplishments, including sales and revenue growth, as well as using certification logos, industry appropriate logos and spot color.

The inclusion of a text box, used to highlight a client list, technical skills or career summary, can also help separate lists of unique and specialized accomplishments.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that there were approximately 3.2 million job openings in the U.S. as of December 2011.
