Many people have been hit hard by the slow economic conditions, and a number of individuals have been left without a job. For people who have families to provide for, the job hunt can be stressful and depressing. However, there are a few ways individuals can increase their chances of finding a new position in a short amount of time, according to Profitable.

A strong resume is the first step toward a new career. Job hunters are encouraged to polish their resumes prior to applying for new positions. A good submission should list skill sets and former experiences that are applicable to the industry the individual is attempting to enter.

Once an individual has earned an interview, professionalism and preparation should be a priority. An applicant should be ready to answer questions pertaining to the business at hand in an articulate manner. Asking questions and exhibiting interest is also an efficient way to appeal to a hiring manager.

The unemployment rate in January was 9%, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. An updated resume can give a job hunter an edge against the competition and help them find a position quickly.
