Job seekers looking for employment in emerging fields may want to consider non-traditional work options as new hiring trends point to increased hiring in the cloud. The new Online Employment Report has found an increase in demand for candidates with computer skills on their resume as more companies across all industries become reliant on the internet and cloud platforms as a service (PaaS). Fabio Rosati, chief executive officer of Elance, an online work platform, said in contrast to sluggish traditional hiring, the new report found that hiring of online businesses rose by 107% last year. "Increasingly, businesses are able to find the talent they need in the cloud," Rosati added. "They build teams and distribute work to software developers, graphic designers, engineers, lawyers, accountants, researchers, writers and other knowledgeable workers who offer their invaluable set of skills to clients worldwide." Chemical engineers, tax law, 3D animators and customer service managers were some of the occupations that saw the biggest increase of online hiring during the third quarter of this year. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that there were approximately 3.1 million job openings in the U.S. as of September 2011. |
