The slow economic recovery has caused many people to rethink their current career choices, with many choosing to go back to school to discover another career path. For those who want to continue their education, nursing is turning out to be a popular and successful program as well as a career choice. According to Brookfieldnow.com, Herzing University has added a nursing program to its new campus in Brookfield, which will start this fall. Admissions director Casey Murray told the news source that interest in the nursing program is high, as a number of people who are either unemployed or unhappy in their current positions are looking for another career. Due to an aging population and the new health care reform, nursing and other health care jobs are in high demand, according to Murry. Karen Kapke, nursing program director and professor, said that hospitals are very interested in hiring and keeping nurses that have a bachelor's degree and encourages those who obtain a bachelor's in nursing to pursue a masters, as job stability may increase with increased education. "A nurse with a bachelor's degree is prepared to go on to a master's degree," said Kapake to the news source. "The need for nurses with master's degrees is going to continue to grow." Jobs in the health care industry are expected to be some of the fasted growing occupations over the next ten years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), with employment in the nursing field to increase by over 20%. |
