The health care industry is one of the industries that is currently experiencing job growth, partially due to the large heath care reform bill that was passed earlier this year. With the reform starting to take effect in October, employers within the industry are looking to hire qualified people in order to take the sector into the future growth.

Over 400 low-income and unemployed residents in Lost Angeles County are getting the chance to receive job training and placement in local healthcare facilities, according to the Los Angeles Times. The Youth Police Institute is offering the health care training program and the news source reports that there is room for 1,200 participants.

“The demand is so great for this,” Dixon Slingerland, executive director of the institute, told the news source. “The goal is to get them a job as quickly as possible.”

The project is funded by both federal stimulus money and in state and local grants, as the institute is 1 of 8 organizations in California to receive federal funds specifically for job training in health care.

As part of the program, participants will take free classes at Los Angeles Valley College and will have paid internships as medical and nursing assistants and pharmacy technicians, the news source reports.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the health care industry is expected to add 3.2 million paid employees between 2008 and 2018.ADNFCR-1502-ID-19903029-ADNFCR
