While the "Great Recession" sent many people's jobs and careers to the gauntlet, the economy seems to be slowly recovering and jobs seems to be heading back to stay. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the health care industry created 8,000 new jobs in May, bringing the total of new health care jobs this year to 85,000. Many of the jobs that were created were in the ambulatory services sector, while nursing also added 2,600 new jobs in May. The health care industry is one of a couple of industries that continued to grow during the economic downturn and slow recovery, according to the BLS. The health care industry has created 13,500 jobs have been created in hospitals alone, across the country since the beginning of 2010. For the past year, according to BLS figures, the health care industry has been growing, on average, by 20,000 jobs a month. In May, the unemployment rate dropped to 9.7%, where it had been for the first three months of 2010. In total, 431,000 jobs were added to the workforce in May, according to the BLS. 10 out of the 20 fastest growing occupations are related to health care.  |
