Florida Career College to Open Nursing Program

While the economy is slowly bouncing back, programs for career development are booming. One career focused college, will soon add nursing to the list of programs that are offered.

According to the Palm Beach Post, the Florida Board of Nursing in Tallahassee approved a two year nursing program, which will be offered at the Florida Career College (FCC). The building was completed in March, but approval for the program just occurred.

The Boynton Beach branch of FCC, also has a cosmetology school, as well as programs for medical assistants and allied health careers, according to the news source. The branch is the first of nine FCC branches allowed by the state to open a nursing school, according to to Mike Schwam, executive director of the Boynton Beach branch.

The Florida Center for Nursing told the news source that the need for nurses in the state is critical. Florida needs 11,000 registered nurses, and that number is expected to grow to 52,000 by 2020.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nurses make up the largest health care occupation with 2.6 million jobs. Between 2008 and 2018, the nursing field is expected to grow by 22%. ADNFCR-1502-ID-19868889-ADNFCR
