The job market is incredibly competitive right now - with companies slowly starting to rehire, it seems like everyone who is looking for a job is out in full force. However, there is one industry that is expected to go on a hiring spree. According to the Minnesota Post, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) both predict that nursing and teaching will be the biggest areas of job growth over the next ten years. The DEED report estimates that almost 34,000 nurses will be hired in the state over the next couple of years, which represented a 23.8% growth. According to the news source, 70% of those nurses will be registered nurses (RN) and the remaining 30% will be licensed practical nurses (LPNS). The increase in nursing jobs is believed to be caused by the aging of the baby boomer generation, along with expanded coverage under the new health care bill and continued medical advances, according to the BLS. The news provider cited a national study that ranks Minnesota second in the country in terms of demand for workers with a post-secondary education. According to the BLS, 585,000 registered nurses are expected to be hired between 2008 and 2018. |
