Entrepreneurs looking to start their own company understand that business experience on a resume may not be enough to succeed in today's competitive global marketplace. The creators of a free website designed to help those trying to launch a new venture said thoughtful planning with an experienced mentor is vital for success.

According to Score.org, research showed that entrepreneurs who completed a business plan were nearly twice as likely to grow their business successfully or secure funding when compared with those who didn't write a plan.

Raj Tumber, a Score mentor, said proper planning is an essential part of any successful business.

"I often meet with people who say, 'I don't need a business plan for my business. I have the passion and motivation.'But proper planning is the bridge between being passionate and making things happen," Tumber stressed. "Prior to starting a business, determine the feasibility of success by planning and discovering the roadblocks today."

Last year, Score helped entrepreneurs start more than 58,00 new businesses in the U.S. with free expert mentoring, business training and support tools.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that 2.5 million jobs were created as the result of new business establishments in the U.S. in 2010.
