Adults returning to college can often find it a daunting experience but returning to education can boost self-esteem and confidence as well as knowledge.

Some 21 years after graduating high school, Michelle Woodring is pursuing a nursing degree as a way of finding a more "stable career" following a period in property management.

She told the Village News Online that after initially being concerned her fellow students would be much younger, she has found many people of a similar age who are also looking for a change of direction.

And, although many adults returning to college face the challenge of juggling study with work and home commitments, Ms Woodring said she is proud to be setting an example to her ten-year-old daughter about the importance of education.

"As you get older you just get into this rut where you think you could never go back to school - but you can," Ms Woodring commented.

"Your self-esteem and confidence skyrocket."

According to the US Government Blog, one option for adults looking to return to college is online study. This allows students to take classes via the internet at their own pace and means they can fit learning around their schedule.
