US jobseekers may think their prospects for finding a new role are slim as a result of the ongoing economic crisis. However, there are a number of ways in which candidates can improve their employability and stand a better chance of getting a dream position in spite of the slowing economy, according to CareerBuilder.com. One of these is refreshing any skills in possession and acquiring new ones by looking for information on the internet and applying for any relevant courses. "Don't give an employer a reason to pass you over because you don't know the basics," said Diane Morgan, director of career services at London Business School. According to Ms Morgan, it may also be worthwhile to learn basic sales techniques, regardless of the industry in which the jobseeker wishes to work in. This can help job applicants to 'sell themselves' to employers, she explained. The Benton County Daily Record suggests that the most effective skill learning takes place when the person in question is able to exert control over feedback and has enough time - between 60 and 90 minutes - in which to practice everyday. |
