Many people have dreams of earning a postsecondary degree, but lack the funds to finish their schooling. However, federal financial aid and scholarships can help individuals who want to obtain a higher education to land a high-salary job.

For veterans, it can be difficult to embark on a new career in health care, education and other fields that typically require a postsecondary degree. Recently, Ashford University and Cox Communications partnered up to provide scholarships to former military officials seeking a higher education.

The Homefront Heroes Scholarship provides individuals with the opportunity to attend a school without paying for tuition. The price of textbooks, courses and annual tuition often hinder veterans' chances to attend college. However, the Homefront Heroes Scholarship relieves recipients of the financial stress that comes with earning a degree.

Five veterans and spouses of military officials recently received scholarships to fulfill their goal of obtaining a postsecondary education. They were chosen out of 120 applicants after submitting an essay about their experiences relating to the military and how they plan to use their degree after graduation.

More than 90% of the high-salary jobs developed within the next decade will require some postsecondary schooling, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
