Handful of Colleges Announce Tuition Reductions

As the cost of adding a postsecondary degree to a resume becomes more important in order to compete in today's competitive job market, 5 schools recently announced plans to slash the cost of tuition to help college bound students and their parents this year.

In Pennsylvania, Cabrini College, a private Catholic liberal arts school, has cut its tuition and fees by 12.5%. The new cost of attending the institution is $29,000, which will remain in effect through 2015.

Lincoln College in Illinois has reduced the costs of its 2- and 4-year programs to $16,500 per year. The amount of financial aide available, however, was also cut due to the reductions.

Seton Hall University, a private Catholic college in New Jersey, has significantly slashed costs by 61%. The price of annual tuition at Seton now runs $12,154.

In Tennessee,  the private liberal arts school University of the South has reduced its tuition by more than $4,000, and in Charleston, West Virginia, the University of Charleston announced a price reduction of more than $5,500.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, professionals with an advanced degree on their resume have the potential to earn $1,000 more per week than those with some or no college education.
