It appears as if there is good news for education professionals looking for work in Central Texas. Teaching is among one of the fastest growing occupations in the region due to an increase in population. A report by Economic Specialists Incorporated and the E3 Alliance found that financial restraints are not expected to have a negative impact on teacher hiring through the end of the decade. E3 Alliance director of analysis and alignment Hannah Gourgey told Community Impact News that the region will be looking to hire a number of qualified teachers with specific specialities on their resume. “We have determined by 2018, this region alone is going to need 15,000 more STEM-related [Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics–related] positions,” Gourgey told the news agency. Gourgey said that the need for skilled workers in other industries, including nursing, will also continue to increase over the next several years. She said most of the region's higher paying, fast-growing jobs will require some level of postsecondary training. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that job opportunities for teachers are expected to grow by 13% through 2018. |
