The economy has caused many individuals to rethink their career goals and focus on different industries. Many people find themselves unemployed due to their companies having to lay off workers, and because of this, some individuals are starting to look for second jobs. Many individuals are turning to careers they never would have imagined pursuing.

A number of job seekers are going back to school to become teachers, according to Sacramento, California's ABC affiliate, News 10. One school that offers training for aspiring teachers told the news provider that 89% of their students are individuals who are changing careers and 41% are over the age of 36.

"We are really focusing on retooling all of our programs," the program's representative, Margaret Fortune, told the news provider. "We want to make sure that we are producing teachers whose students are advanced or proficient in the California academic content standards. We believe that teachers who are able to accomplish that will have a job in any economy."

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, careers in teaching are expecting to increase by 13% by 2018.ADNFCR-1502-ID-19675344-ADNFCR
