Although there is a national need for careers in teaching, many state budgets are preventing school districts from hiring on more workers. In addition to this problem, a number of teachers are in danger of being let go because their education system cannot afford to keep them on salary. Some states have asked for extra funding to ensure this problem dissipates, however, some education officials deem a few proposed methods of saving money to be unconventional.

Board members for the school district of Los Angeles, California, are thinking of potentially shortening the school year by six days, according to the Los Angeles Times. This measure would help save the district $90 million and preserve 5,000 jobs.

State governor Arnold Schwarzenegger had previously stated that school districts would be allowed to shorten their school year because of the education budget crisis, however, the majority have worked their way around it.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, careers in teaching will still see an increase on a national level by 13% by the year 2018.ADNFCR-1502-ID-19617205-ADNFCR
