For educators looking to add a specialty degree on their resume in order to advance their careers in administrative roles, Indiana University (IU) has launched a new innovative educational leadership program.

The new dual program through the the Kelly School of Business and the IU School of Education will prepare school leaders with the latest management and leadership skills they need for careers as superintendents and other administrative roles, including educational specialist.

"Research has consistently shown that the quality of school leaders is one of the most important factors in promoting effective school reform and increasing student achievement," noted Gerardo Gonzales, dean of the school of education. " This collaboration brings together outstanding faculty from two different but complementary disciplines to prepare school leaders at a time when both instructional and management skills are so clearly needed for effective educational reform."

Coursework will integrate curriculum and instructional leadership, and include law, politics, strategic planning and organizational design. All of the business school courses will be offered online.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that job prospects for education administrators are expected to be excellent, with opportunities projected to increase by 8% through the end of the decade.
