Many teachers find the profession to be challenging but extremely rewarding as they see students learn and grow under their care. This type of career is certainly for those who enjoy communicating and interacting with a wide range of individuals on a daily basis. Some have been inspired to enter the field when they decided to change careers, giving up an office job for a profession that calls for engagement with people. According to SouthCoastToday.com, officials at one college have recently seen a surge of students applying for their fast-track teaching program. At Bridgewater State College, the two-semester course of study helps students get their teaching license and this semester the enrollment reached 29 individuals up from 12 students last year. The poor economy has also lead some to rethink their true desires and career goals, Dr Tom Brady, the graduate coordinator, explains. "I think the economic downturn recently has certainly put people in the position where they have to make a decision about what they need to do next," he told the news provider, in reference to the increased amount of students. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. employment of school teachers is projected to grow by 12% until 2016.  |
