There are plenty of reasons a job seeker may wish to pursue careers in law enforcement. Some applicants may be looking for excitement, honor, or the lofty pursuit of justice. Those who find a passion in this field may decide to follow through with career goals even after retirement.

In Beaufort County, New Jersey, more than 25 retired police officers launched the Low Country Retired Law Enforcement Officers Organization, which looks to link local law enforcement with the public, the Beaufort Gazette reports.

The group, which was founded by John Pontillo, a 25-year veteran of the police force in Lodi, New Jersey, includes members of local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and meets monthly to discuss how best to protect and serve the area's citizens.

Specifically, Pontillo told the news source, "We want to be able to help officers that are killed in action or have been disabled in the line of duty."

Another member of the organization, former Los Angeles County sergeant Ed Elder, said the group gives former police officers the opportunity to stay involved with the career and community they love.

Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that employment in the field of law enforcement is expected to grow 11% by 2016.
