Although careers in law have taken a lot of flak from the recession, causing many practices to close, there is still hope for people who are interested in legal careers. There are a number of fields that lawyers can become involved in. Ranging from family law to corporate litigation, lawyers are needed in a variety of practice areas.

According to a new finding from The American Lawyer's Lateral Report, asset management (AM) law has seen an 11% increase in partners moving laterally in 2009, indicating there are still positions to be had.

Litagation partners moved the most at 17%, while finance lawyers and corporate attorneys followed with 15% and 10%, respectively. Analysts still believe there is a market out there for lawyers, despite the recession.

"This was and will continue to be both a buyer's and a seller's market," Aric Press, editor in chief of The American Lawyer, said in a statement. "Firms with cash and daring continue to shop for new talent. Partners with business and a sense of unease put themselves in play. That's the bright side."

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, lawyer careers are expected to increase by 13 percent by 2018.ADNFCR-1502-ID-19591135-ADNFCR
