Although many people believe that counseling relates to family problems and mental illness, there are a wide variety of fields for counselors. What many people don't realize is that counselors can be used for an array of things. One of the least-known counseling professions is wealth guidance, which specialize in helping people manage their money. According to the Wall Street Journal, there is a large number of career opportunities for wealth counselors. While some of the world's richest individuals have a small staff-worth of financial advisors, the market is continuing to grow in other directions. A study published by Wise Counsel Research, a nonprofit group that researches wisdom and wealth, discovered that many wealth counselors are now being used for children, spouses and parents for their rich clients. "When you're not wealthy, you look for parents or siblings or friends for this kind of advice," study author Keith Whitaker told the news source. "When you're wealthy, you have those same needs but you have the resources and opportunity to find that advice in a thoughtful manner." Personal financial advisors, or wealth counselors, are expected to be a growing field, increasing 30% by 2018, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. |
