Pursuing a career in counseling is a good idea for those who enjoy helping people. While it can be a very rewarding job, there are certain elements that can also make the profession fun for both the supporter and the patient.

According to the New York Times, one method being used to treat mentally ill patients is art therapy. Some patients find that creating artistic pieces helps them relax and takes them to a better place.

Project Moving On, a program from the Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service, uses art as way to allow mentally ill and troubled individuals to express themselves. It also teaches the participants the value of team encouragement.

Garvin Henry, a participant in the program, told the news provider he uses his artwork to help with his emotions.

"Whenever I have my ups and downs I focus on my artwork," he said. "Each of these pictures [are] like my children."

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that art therapy is a form of recreational work, and is one of the faster-growing occupations in the country. Analysts believe there will be a 15% increase in the recreational therapy field by 2018.ADNFCR-1502-ID-19519637-ADNFCR
